Wool
While we don’t want to play favourites, wool is arguably one of the most wonderful textile materials available. It has many great, sustainable qualities: it is long-lasting, takes great colour from natural dyes, does not require frequent washing, and can be recycled relatively well.
LOST WOOL
On top of that, much of the wool that is produced in the Netherlands is currently not used. Lost in the tides of the international market, wool prices have dropped so far that it is often easier for farmers to just discard the wool than to sell it.
SINGLE ORIGIN
At SUFi, we want to change this. That’s why, in 2022, we gathered samples from many kinds of wool in our region. The wool was analysed, spun, and made into a collection of ‘single origin’ plaids: each plaid was traceable to exactly one local herd. Thankfully, you guys were as enthousiastic as we were, and the collection sold out fast.
NEW OLLECTION
That’s why we are now taking our wool production to the next level. We will not only gather larger quantities of wool to produce more plaids and other products. We will also collaborate with shepherds to improve wool quality, sorting and shearing.
REGENERATIVE
On top of that, certain grazing methods have the potential to improve soil quality, increase biodiversity and even store carbon. We will collaborate with farmers to encourage these regenerative ways of grazing, so that our products not only are less harmful to the environment but actually have a positive impact.
